About the event
Die Lebendige Bibliothek ist ein Instrument, mit dem Vorurteile und Diskriminierung bekämpft werden sollen. Sie funktioniert wie eine normale Bibliothek: Die Besucher können im Katalog nach den verfügbaren Titeln suchen, das Buch auswählen, das sie lesen möchten, und es für einen begrenzten Zeitraum ausleihen. Nach der Lektüre geben sie das Buch an die Bibliothek zurück und leihen, wenn sie möchten, ein weiteres aus. Der einzige Unterschied besteht darin, dass in der Lebendigen Bibliothek die Bücher Menschen sind und das Lesen aus einem Gespräch besteht.

The Living Library is a tool that seeks to challenge prejudice and discrimination. It works just like a normal library: visitors can browse the catalogue for the available titles, choose the book they want to read, and borrow it for a limited period of time. After reading, they return the book to the library and, if they want, borrow another. The only difference is that in the Living Library, books are people, and reading consists of a conversation.
